The Lizard King with the Doors
Aug 29, 2010 Rock Bands
Rare backstage footage from the un-released 1960’s movie “Feast of Friends”. This video features a behind the scenes glimpse of one the country’s best rock bands, in its prime. It’s also a rare, candid view of the man who would become a Rock Icon, screwing around, and making his band mates laugh. Jim wildly bangs on a helpless piano and cracks up the band. The footage is grainy 8mm- but the content is good.

Motörhead – Ace of Spades
Aug 27, 2010 Rock Bands
Motörhead are a British rock band formed in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Ian Fraser Kilmister, known mostly by his stage name Lemmy, who has remained the sole constant member. The band pre-dated, but are sometimes regarded as part of, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which re-energised heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Usually a power trio, Motörhead had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades, and particularly No Sleep ’til Hammersmith, cemented Motörhead’s reputation as one of Britain’s foremost rock bands. Motörhead are typically classified as heavy metal, and their fusion of punk rock into the genre helped to pioneer speed metal and thrash metal. Lemmy dislikes such labels, preferring to describe the band’s music simply as “rock n’ roll” and usually opening live shows with the line “We are Motörhead. We play rock and roll.”. Motörhead’s approach has remained the same over the band’s career, preferring to play what they enjoy and do best; their appreciation of early rock and roll is reflected in some of their occasional cover songs. Motörhead’s lyrics typically cover such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse, and “life on the road”. The band’s distinctive fanged-face logo, with its oversized boar’s horns, chains, and spikes, was created by artist Joe Petagno in 1977 for the cover of the Motörhead album …

Buffalo – The Prophet
Aug 23, 2010 Rock Bands
Another extremely underrated early 70s rock band. Buffalo was an Aussie riff machine that was nearly as heavy as Black Sabbath. Ignore their strange album artwork which left quite a bit to be desired. Their music catalog proves they are one of Australia’s best hard rock bands ever.
In Memory of Lynyrd Skynyrd Pianist Billy Powell
Aug 23, 2010 Rock Bands
I grew up around Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and 38 Special in Jacksonville, FL. Not just around their music, but the bands. My family was friends with their families, so it took me until my teens to really realize that these were major rock bands. To me, they were just guys that my brother knew. Billy was always one of the funniest and nicest guys. A very talented musician with a genuine lust for life. I chose to use two clips of what I think are a couple of his best works: the piano part from the live version of “Freebird” and his part in “Tuesday’s Gone”. He is greatly missed, though his spirit lives on in his music. Rest In Peace Rock N Roll Angel…
