Lower the strings is never a problem… But Yes… I don’t raise them and lock the string in because YES I will break a string quite often. I can’t afford it. It’s mainly the high E and B strings that would break. Eddie Van Halen did an amazing job creating music with the Steinberger. He’s able to lock it into different positions fast while playing… so smooth… you can’t even TELL he did it. I’m amazed at that… and I own a Steinberger.

wow thanks a lot man. does doing that a lot not trash the strings really quickly?

continued… During the middle of Summer Nights intro… Eddie Van Halen releases the whammy bar quick… bring the guitar strings back to normal tuning. Then during the guitar solo… Eddie locks the whammy bar quickly into a lower position. Making the strings really flexible and bendy and actually fun to play. They have a different sound. It’s like you losening all your strings down 2-3 fret notes. Bassier sound. The trans-trem just adds another feature to the guitar… one that is cool

Regarding how the Steinberger TRANS-TREM feature works… Think of it doing what a capo does… but you don’t need the capo. If you lock the whammy bar in a higher position (the HIGHEST ‘G’)… the OPEN strings are all higher in pitch. Instead of EADGBE they are GCFB-flatDG. The intro to SUMMER NIGHTS by Van Halen… Eddie starts out with an open G chord… but because he raised and locked in the trans-trem in the highest position… the chord is a B-flat/A-sharp.

wow thats pretty cool, its so funny to see high school bands play cool songs like this (i never thought i would hear a high school band do poison!!), i was born in 88 so i missed out on these songs at the time, im used to high school bands playing shitty indie music not real rock!! so how does the whammy bar work, why would you want to lock it into 5 different places? (sorry im a bit of a guitar noob)

continued… My Steinberger guitar also came with their TRANS-TREM feature. With the trans-trem I can raise/lower the whammy bar… and lock it in to 5 different positions. For this to work… ALL the strings bend IN TUNE with each other. A great design by Ned Steinberger! The original Steinbergers made of this graphite composite are very durable, sound great, have great sustain, are 7 pounds in weight (easy on the back compared to a Gibson Les Paul), and are really fun to play.

I’m the lead guitarist, James Limborg. The guitar I am playing is a black Steinberger model GL2T. Same Steinberger Eddie Van Halen played on Van Halen song titles Summer Nights, Get Up, and some others. The guitar I play these days is a Steinberger model GL7TA. Has the same shape, is white, and has two EMG89 pickups rather than two EMG85 pickups the GL2T has. The Steinberger guitar does more than normal guitars… The neck and body are a 1-piece solid graphite composite…

This was in 1989 in the LUNCH ROOM up against the SOUTH SIDE wall where they served the food. If you walk in the FRONT doors of the school… and keep walking STRAIGHT BACK (West)… You’d run into the LUNCH area… on the LEFT is the wall we played on. The light guy connected his power to the 220volt circuit breaker box in the employee cooking area.

April 26th, 2010 at 4:39 am
haha weird.

Yeah… This was back in 1989 in their lunch room upstairs. Our stage was on the same wall where you go up and get your food… but to the RIGHT/WEST side. Our lighting guy had to connect directly to the 220 volt cables in the electrical box in the kitchen.

Yeah, I wish I had realized the Jets were there! I don’t think we stayed for the whole dance… so long ago to remember. We did see the Jets at the state fair when they were with Mazarati (who didnt actually play) and Limited Warranty. But I do remember your guys’ band (very cool) I was a 90 grad from Anoka. Glad to see you are still makin music!

Cool. The Jets came out that night as well. Fun night. Best light show we ever had in BACK-STAGE band. The light guy loved our band… he was retired… so was nice enough to let us use his lights that night. Great guy.

At the end of the video, you can see some of the members of MCA Records pop music group the Jets (Leroy, Elizabeth, and Moana Wolfgramm). We were friends of theirs and they came out to see us that night in 1989.

This is a video of me playing in my 1st rock band back when I was in high school (1989). The band is called BACK-STAGE. We were together for a few years.
