stanley5.blogspot.com 史丹利五提供History of Psychedelic Rock 迷幻樂的歷史Part 2 中文字幕Psychedelic rock is a style of rock music that attempts to replicate the mind-altering experiences of hallucinogenic drugs. It emerged during the mid 1960s among garage and folk rock bands in Britain and the United States. Psychedelic rock is a bridge from early blues-based rock to progressive rock and heavy metal, but it also drew on non-Western sources such as Indian music’s rāgas and sitars. While the first contemporary musicians to be influenced by psychedelic drugs were in the jazz and folk scenes, the first use of the term “psychedelic” in popular music was by the “acid-folk” group The Holy Modal Rounders in 1964, with the song “Hesitation Blues.”[citation needed] The first use of the word “psychedelic” in a rock music context is usually credited to The Deep, and the earliest known appearance of this usage of the word in print is in the title of their 1966 album The Psychedelic Moods of the Deep. Roky Erickson, lead singer of The 13th Floor Elevators, coined the term ‘psychedelic rock’ in a 1966 interview. In 1962, British rock embarked on a frenetic race of ideas that spread back to the US with the British Invasion. The folk music scene also experimented with outside influences. In the tradition of Jazz and blues many musicians began to take drugs, and include drug references in their songs. Beat Generation writers like William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and

  8. norgul Says:

What’s the song in the background at 1:15?

  9. leadzeppbelly Says:

Oh right. So the guy that just puts his hand over the fretting area and hits the same note for 5 hours is more talented and original than a guitar wizard. Look here smart arse, before you make dumbass comments like you just did, listen to music. This might enlighten you.

  10. neilus Says:

totally agree. Barrett was a stunningly original guitarist, vocalist and songwriter.3 studio albums and not a single solitary cliched blues lick.nobody made music like Syd Barrett, and Syd Barrett made music like nobody else.
JG was a run of the mill folk blues musician who took lots of acid.
So yes, i completely agree, you cant compare them…LOL.look im gonna shut up,i dont rate the GD, never have, never will…but i acknowlede that i seem to be in the minority on that point…!

  11. leadzeppbelly Says:

Oh come on the Dead are fucking awesome. Am sorry but u can’t compare Barrett to Garcia as a musician. As much as i like Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Grateful Dead’s first 2 albums are incredible.

  12. billsasquach Says:

    amen

  13. nickgui Says:

It’s not & a title like Rollercoaster is?
    You are amusing.
You ever hear John Cipollina’s Quintessential SF Sound Psychedelic guitar? Taking nothing away from Sid or 13th he didn’t have to listen to them first to make it. I saw all these bands live at the time-How bout you old sage of all Psychedlic wisdom?
With respect to Syd as always.
Happy Trails from where a famous Golden one shines & people from all over related to Anthem to the Sun on many levels… if not you.& your mates.

  14. neilus Says:

13th Floor Elevators “an ok garage band and thats it”, this is the band that recorded Rollercoaster, Slip Inside This House,Levitation etc…!!! Do you even know these songs? ive downloaded the very unimaginatively titled Anthems but im not overly hopeful.and lets leave it there.youre a Deadhead, and not even the shimmering acid drenched brilliance of Syd Barrett can match the GD.

  15. nickgui Says:

As most people who are really Hip to what psychedelic is know as someone said “Anthem of the Sun” is as psychedelic as Bach music is baroque.”

  16. 6749er Says:

I don’t have a problem w/ you not liking them. Not into your box. In your narrow view of what psychedelic music is people who just played what you call psychedelic
    music-They weren’t.
They blew past narrowly defined musical genre from the start & played a eclectic wide ranging no borders mix of music.
Including some best & 1st Psychedellic.
Me & my Mates thought the 13th was a OK garage band that’s it & if U listen to the Dead’s Epic Psychedelic- Anthem To The Sun- you might know why..

  17. neilus Says:

Well we seem to be the only 2 people alive who think the GD were a boring pub rock band who happened to take lots of acid…but Barrett era Floyd? Cmon Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a fucking masterpiece from one of the most uniquely gifted genius ever…no?

  18. neilus Says:

ive never doubted the GD are loved by millions of people, most of whom would say they were pioneers of psychedelic music…i just dont see what all the fuss is about, why do you seem to have a problem accepting that i dont like the GD?
ill ask again, post a link to smt you think might change my mind…i watched a clip of a track called Truckin, which i thought was unimpressive, corny old blues stuff and not exactly psychedelic but i wont judge them on one track…

  19. nickgui Says:

Tell you what kid. Google- Psychedelic Music Grateful Dead & you can read for days all the people who don’t agree with you & hopefully it will help you put your self & your mates opinion in Perspective.

  20. neilus Says:

whether the 13th floor elevators were leaders or not is irrlevant, they made the finest psychedelic album easter everywhere…do you know this album…?…slip inside this house…?

  21. neilus Says:

Ummm…im afraid i cant really follow your arguament. too much owsley perhaps?
i know 2 americans who smoke pot and love the GD. i know 500 english friends who love psychedelia and have no time for the GD. To me its proto prog rock and very dull. i prefer syd barrett. thats just my opinion.dont stress about it bro!
post me a link and ill check it out…

  22. 6749er Says:

So, are all the audiences who seem to be having a real good time
in all the Grateful Dead Live in England I’ve heard Americans?
How bout France & Germany & all the Countrys they played in Europe?
All pot smoking Americans? How does that box fit? Doesn’t fit at all.
Does it? Maybe a whole lot of people enjoyed something around the World you & your mates don’t

  23. nickgui Says:

    I’m not arguing-I’m talk’en facts.
    You brought it up.Dead wasn’t a Blues Band & 13th Floor wasn’t The Leader.
If you were there you’d agree. Like to have been able to give you a Dose of our own local Bears Greatest Hits & take you to a Dead show at The Avalon Ballroom or Fillmore before The Elavator came to town & you could tell me if it was or wasn’t Psychedelic. Happy Trails Amigo

  24. neilus Says:

Hey bro, theres enough division in the world without ppl arguing about bands.the GD give u a lot of pleasure and im happy for ya.i dunno, maybe its an american thing?i,and all my mates, loved Country Joe,Red Crayola,Elevators but nobody ever liked the GD.Yet the americans i know who smoke a bit adore them.imho they werent psychedelic in sound (a la Barrett era floyd) or ideology (a la Elevators) but hey thats just my opinion…

  25. 6749er Says:

If you did check them out you’d know they weren’t a Blues Band.
That narrow simplistic false box doesn’t fit.
I was born in the same town as The Dead. I saw them play for 40 years.
Nobody I know ever called them a Blues Band.
How many Blues Band you know play a lot of music that isn’t Blues?
Beatles did some Blues & R&B that make them a Blues & R&B Band?
I will give you this, you are smug in your ignorance.
