Noiseworks – Welcome To The World (Remastered Audio)

Released 13/11/1987 this is “Welcome To The World” by Australian rock act “Noiseworks”. Written & composed by the bands original line up it was the 4th single from their debut self titled album and reached #41 on the Australian Aria charts. © CBS Productions Limited Noiseworks are an Australian rock band that formed in Sydney in 1985. The original line up of Noiseworks was Jon Stevens (lead vocals), Stuart Fraser (guitar), Steve Balbi(bass), Justin Stanley (keyboards) and Kevin Nicol (drums). Considered to be one of Australia’s more successful rock bands of the late 1980s, their self-titled debut in 1987 had a series of successful singles, such as “No Lies,” “Take Me Back,” and “Welcome to the World.” The album went on to sell more than 200000 copies in Australia. The band’s second album, 1988’s Touch, proved to be another big hit going Top 10 on debut. The hit singles included “Touch,” “Voice Of Reason” and “In My Youth”. Noiseworks disbanded in 1992, shortly after the release of the group’s third album, Love Versus Money (1991) which included such singles as “Hot Chilli Woman” and “Freedom”. Stevens has forged a somewhat unsuccessful solo career since Noiseworks with the albums “Are U Satisfied” , “Circle” , “Ain’t No Life For The Faint Hearted” and “The Works.” Jon had a brief stint as lead singer of INXS, but left after becoming frustrated with the band’s lack of progress in generating new material. Steve Balbi and Justin Stanley formed The Electric Hippies in 1994

Still recovering from seeing Jon Stevens at the Sandbelt Hotel in Melbourne last night and, believe me, I have never enjoyed a performance like that in ages! For someone who had bypass surgery 6 months ago, he sure has the stamina and drive of someone half his age. Speaking of KOL, Jon even teased with a line of Sex On Fire as they were about to start No Lies. The best! Thankyou Jon for a memorable night.

I can’t say I’ve ever been a huge Noiseworks fan. I was listening to ‘In My Youth’ just now and clicked on this one. They have quite a few songs which are solid rock and solid entertainment. They are sung with some passion too. None would ever challenge me to make myself a better person though. Not that music has to fill this role. There is some stuff out there though that really grabs heart and soul. That is awesome to listen to.

It is cool to listen and reminisce. Thanks for the upload.

This songs sounds best played beside the ocean – you can hear lapping, lilting and surging waves in the layers of the song. Sigh – I guess we all feel a little bit reflective looking out to the horizon, huh?

just heard sex on fire and use somebody… someone sent those boys a few noiseworks albums and they formed a band….
Not as polished as noiseworks tho,, maybe Noiseworks needs to reform and release in every market that the Kings of Leon are…
the fans will say if they are the Kings of Leon, Noiseworks are the Kings of the Universe……

  13. happysingerinoz Says:

Im gonna have to check that one, I just saw the TV commercial for their new album and they sounded like the king of crap… Id heard good things about them but that was the first time Id heard their music and the sound cuts on the TV add were crap…..

  14. happysingerinoz Says:

What a fool Jon was for becoming an Australian citizen… before that he would have been in the running for Australian of the year……

The cassette of “Noiseworks” I purchased in maybe 1988-89 had a different version of this song – same music and vocals (although the arrangement sounded less polished), but obviously recorded at a different session. When I purchased the CD of the album years later it had this vers on it.

Great Aussie band, I bought their 3 albums on cassette and then years later on CD! :D
