QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS in Kharkov – September 12, 2008 –”Bad Company” —————————— The rock band Queen sang to 350000 Ukrainians on Friday to raise money to care for HIV-AIDS sufferers in this ex-Soviet republic. Cheering fans packed the central square in Ukraine’s second-largest city to listen to the revered British group, whose lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury, died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991. The open-air charity concert — named “Life must go on!” — was timed to the release of Queen’s new album, “Cosmos Rocks,” which comes out Monday. The show launched the band’s tour of European countries including Russia, Britain, France, Germany. Organizers chose Kharkov, an industrial city in the east of the country, for its huge student population. But ecstatic middle-aged Ukrainians also turned up to listen to the songs of their youth, a testament to the undiminished popularity of aging Western rock bands in the former Soviet Union. This is Queen’s second tour after they teamed up with Rodgers, who used to be the leading vocalist for the popular English rock bands Free and Bad Company. It is their first show in Ukraine.

Abba – Dancing Queen
Apr 20, 2010 Classic Rock
Recording of Dancing Queen started in August 1975. It was inspired by George McCrae’s 1974 disco classic Rock Your Baby. It was released in August 1976, and was instantly a huge wordwide hit. It was no. 1 for 14 weeks in Sweden, and 6 weeks in UK. Stig recalls “One day I found a note in my office with a telephone number on it. I gave it to Gorel and said ‘Can you call them’. She replied ‘It’s not a telephone number, it’s the latest sales figures for Dancing Queen in Britain’”. Frida recalls “I loved the song from the very beginning. Coming back from the studio, Benny played the backing track to me. It was so beautiful that I started to cry. I mean, even without lyrics or voices on it, it was outstanding.” Dancing Queen is Abba’s best known song, and continues to fill dance floors the world over to this day. This performance is from the November 1978 Japan tv show “Abba Special”. From Arrival album. Lyrics: You can dance, you can sing Having the time of your life, See that girl, watch that scene Dig in the Dancing Queen, Friday night and the lights are low, Looking out for the place to go, Where they play the right music, getting in the swing You come in to look for a king, Anybody could be that guy, Night is young and the music’s high, With a bit of rock music, everything is fine You’re in the mood for a dance, And when you get the chance, You are the Dancing Queen, Young and sweet, only seventeen Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine You can dance, you can …
Rocket Queen Appetite For Destruction Guns ‘N’ Roses
Apr 19, 2010 Classic Rock
Copyright 1987 Geffen Taken From Wikipedia “Rocket Queen” is the last song on Appetite for Destruction, the debut album from hard rock band Guns N’ Roses. I wrote this song for this girl who was gonna have a band and she was gonna call it Rocket Queen. She kinda kept me alive for a while. The last part of the song is my message to this person, or anybody else who can get something out of it. It’s like there’s hope and a friendship note at the end of the song. For that song there was also something I tried to work out with various people—a recorded sex act. It was somewhat spontaneous but premeditated; something I wanted to put on the record. —Axl Rose An Interview With The Gunners, Hit Parader – March 1988 A credit in the booklet for Appetite for Destruction reads “Barbi (Rocket Queen) Von Grief”, implying that she was “this girl” Rose mentions in the quote. Slash states that he and Duff McKagan wrote the main riff to “Rocket Queen” when they first got together, before either of them had joined Hollywood Rose or LA Guns. It has also been said that Rose brought a woman, Adriana Smith, to the studio for recording. Steve Thompson, an engineer on the album, said the following in an interview: Axl wanted some pornographic sounds on Rocket Queen, so he brought a girl in and they had sex in the studio. We wound up recording about 30 minutes of sex noises. If you listen to the break on Rocket Queen it’s in there. It was later stated in the music magazine Classic Rock, as well as …

The Making of ‘Good Company’ This is really great. It shows how Brian single handedly created an entire dixieland band with layered guitar tracks. Amazing. Genius.
