Joe Cocker With A Little Help From My Friends cover – Gruhak covers best rock songs of all time

Joe Cocker s version of With a Little Help from My Friends is one of the best classic blues rock songs of all time. Cover of Joe Cocker s version of With a Little Help from My Friends was recorded live for our first promo DVD. With a Little Help from My Friends (originally A Little Help from My Friends) was written by Lennon and McCartney for Ringo Starr to sing on Sgt. Pepper album. Joe Cocker s version of With A Little Help From My Friends was a radical re-arrangement of the original, it is slower and in a different key, with a lengthy instrumental introduction featuring guitar lines from Jimmy Page. With A Little Help From My Friends lyrics What would you think if I sang out of tune, Would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song And I’ll try not to sing out of key. Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends What do I do when my love is away (Does it worry you to be alone?) How do I feel by the end of the day, (Are you sad because you’re on your own?) No, I get by with a little help from my friends Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends Do you need anybody I need somebody to love Could it be anybody I want somebody to love. Would you believe in a love at first sight Yes, I’m certain that it happens all the time What do you see when you turn out the light I can’t tell you

The Best Indie-Rock Songs of the Year 2009 Pt. 1

2009 was another year where indie-rock continued it’s push into the mainstream, with many of the year’s biggest songs appearing in commercials and popular television shows across the nation. If one can say anything about the current trend of indie-rock it is that it seems to be moving away from last year’s glut of boring singer/songwriters and into more interesting territory where the artist’s vision reigns above all—with the slow death of the music industry there are few people left to tell artists what they can and cannot do. I would put my bet of poker chips on 2010 being the year artists truly break free of their industry chains.

Cass McCombs – “You Saved My Life”

Cass McCombs has been making some of the most beautiful, smart and mysteriously understated rock music this decade. He finally gained a bit more press and accolades with this gentle, plaintive number off his most recent release, “Catacombs.” It is hard to pin down McCombs style and influences—one can hear part Neil Young in his falsetto as well as classic 50s and 60s Brill Building pop in his arrangements. But then he throws in some shimmering pedal steel and messes up your whole equation. One of the decade’s best songwriters, McCombs deserves even more of an audience for his beautiful music.

Morrissey – “Something is Squeezing My Skull”

Pushing 50, Morrissey is still churning out some of the catchiest, and rocking, material since his comeback in the early part of the decade. His newest release, “Years of Refusal” is one of his hardest singles to date and was one of his most successful singles in recent years, proving that Morrissey is still relevant to the petulant, angsty youths on the island and across the pond alike. The most oft-cited lyrics from this fun, rocking single is Morrissey listing a litany of prescription drugs with the final coda of “Don’t give me any more!”

Health – “Die Slow”

Health were able to congeal all their influences and release an actual honest-to-god verse/chorus/verse song with “Die Slow.” They haven’t gone pop, thank god, but they are making slow inroads into actual song territory with this slice of jagged, disco pop that surprised many as one of the best indie-rock songs of the year.

Classic hip-hop songs

It is not difficult to distinguish the classic among hundreds of hip hop songs. Having influenced a substantial audience globally with unique emcee storytelling skills, powerful lyrics, and socially conscious views, classic hip hop songs are anchored by good quality scratching and memorable, impressive hip hop rhythm.

To my view, the classic hip-hop songs (in alphabetical order) are:

Nas – One Mic from the album Stillmatic (2001)

Widely regarded as a creative and prominent storyteller, Nas uses complex lyrical schemes and multi-syllabic rhymes in One Mic. “Hoodrats, don’t abortion your womb, we need more warriors soon, sip from the star sun and the moon in this life of police chases street sweepers and coppers stick-up kids with no conscience, leavin victims with doctors. If you really think you ready to die, with nines out this is what nas is bout, nigga the time is now!”

In the beginning of his career Nas performed in an angry, straightforward and clumsy way, expressing an anxiety in his storytelling. Gradually he became a remarkably talented rapper with a richer voice and a clearer hip hop technique. In Stillmatic, Nas’ lyrics are socially conscious and describe real situations besides simply commemorating guns, and drugs, while reflecting the need to return to long-forgotten ideals and ambitions.

Run D.M.C. – It’s Tricky from the album Raising Hell  (1986)

Run D.M.C. are the Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and Nirvana of hip-hop. With their great impact on the development of hip hop in the 80s they turned hip-hop into mainstream music just like Louis Armstrong did for jazz, Benny Goodman for swing and Nirvana for alternative rock.

Ready for a breakthrough into the mainstream, Run D.M.C. launched their third album Raising Hell and hit a blockbuster by becoming the first hip hop group to go gold, platinum, and multi-platinum, and to appear on the Rolling Stone cover. It’s Tricky was the smash hit of Raising Hell spitting quick-tongue remarks and screaming roaring threats.

Slick Rick – Children’s Story from the album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick (1988)

Children’s Story is an all-time, forever classic hip-hop song, combining funk elements with beats, anchored by the unique emcee style of Slick Rick. The incessantly flawless stream of half-American, half-English accent and the creative way he puts together a story of a routine situation imitating the voices of a woman or a child makes him one of the a genius storytellers in the history of hip hop. Moreover, Slick Rick was one of the first to introduce graphics in his CD covers, using colourful backgrounds and lots of humour. Children’s Story is the best song of the album but overall the album is must have.

The Notorious B.I.G. – Big Poppa from the album Ready To Die (1995)

The Brooklyn born Notorious BIG is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, not only for the music he produced but also for hi lifestyle. Sex, drugs and guns – instead of rock roll – made The Notorious BIG a huge idol for the obese African Americans of the 90s, who forgot about their appearance and focused on the rhyme and rhythm.

The extraordinary sweet rhyming ability of The Notorious Big anchored by melodic synthesizers, smooth trumpets, and soft strings made Big Poppa a Top Ten smash hit achieving platinum sales. Yet, the rapper had legal problems with police for drug and gun possession. The conditions of his murder have never been clarified.

I work as a financial and investment advisor but my passion is writing, music and photography. Writing mostly about finance, business and music, being an amateur photographer and a professional dj, I am inspired from life.

Being a strong advocate of simplicity in life, I love my family, my partner and all the people that have stood by me with or without knowing. And I hope that someday, human nature will cease to be greedy and demanding realizing that the more we have the more we want and the more we satisfy our needs the more needs we create. And this is so needless after all.
