Rare backstage footage from the un-released 1960’s movie “Feast of Friends”. This video features a behind the scenes glimpse of one the country’s best rock bands, in its prime. It’s also a rare, candid view of the man who would become a Rock Icon, screwing around, and making his band mates laugh. Jim wildly bangs on a helpless piano and cracks up the band. The footage is grainy 8mm- but the content is good.

yes! it’s nice to see someone else who ‘gets it’ nietzsche said many beautiful things about art, music, etc.
there were so many beautiful, complex, intelligent layers to the band (and jim.) ray’s chord/melodic phrasing alone is utterly brilliant. what a cool fuckin band — the epitome of 60’s hip, but they were understated, cool without trying to be cool, they knew what was up, they knew beckett, artuad, jazz, rimbaud etc

It was on an unreleased home movie called “Feast of Friends.” I am not sure it can be commerically purchased. I bought it on VCR tape in a bootleg shop in Cambridge MA, but I have seen better quality cuts on Youtube. I may just upload the whole tape, which has a lot of good performances and behind the scenes stuff, including Jim comforting a bleeding groupie who got whacked with a chair backstage.

I LUV IT WHEN JIM PLAYS THE PIANO! HE”S THE BEST! “A crowd gathered, his land lord appeared, and took Frederick back up to his room, on the second floor, where he began to… PLAY THE PIANO MADLY… and SING MADLY LIKE…” who else in the world could come up with that? Bon Jovi couldn’t. They are awesome, but NO ONE can match jim’s… immortality and power.
