The Vogues – Five O’clock World ”
What were the guys behind the lead doing ? Was it the Swim ? Almost as annoying as the guitar. Whoever pointed that out was right on ! Anyway, this was one of the greatest songs ever written for people who have had to endure the worst jobs imaginable. I consider this song with its lyrics and melody to be one of the best to have debuted during the sixties.
For Waldocounty: What Did You Do About the “ANIMALS…and Their “LiP –Sincked” HIT…. ” ITS’ MY LIFE .” With the Girls… Mounted as Placked “WALL –TROPHIES” in Medias rase?
You should be aware that in mant third world countries women do alot,if not most,of the phsyical back-breaking labor.
Just because this is a ” Beaver Cleaver ” video dosen’t at deminish the fact that women are exploited all over the world !
This is definetly one of my favorites from the class of ‘65. Thanks for this video, it’s the first time of seen the vogues. The future is here and i have alot of catching up to do. Thanks for posting.
I can smell the Brylcreem from here…!They were what was referred to as ’square’- anything not Beatles/urban driven, and left-over from the 50’s… this was 1965, just before the hippie explosion…
russallert: Not I, but others alarmed “looking for issues.” It’s politically insecure comments from 20-somethings, taught by radicalized teachers & profs who are products of the 60’s and 70’s. So what if women work the machines. Aren’t they “liberated” and working male jobs? Political correctness deconstructed falls apart from its faulty premises. This is an iconic video and let’s enjoy w/o neo-Marxist interpretation. You had indoctrinators, not teachers. Stop 2nd-guessing everything.
Well, Waldocounty, I think you’re the one looking for issues here where none exist. But you are right that the women in the background appeared behind many of the acts on Hullabaloo, sometimes in rather silly poses determined by the director (hunters in a Byrds sequence, medieval English ladies behind the Sir Douglas Quintet). Sometimes they did interesting stuff, eg. standing still and deadpanning while the Kinks did All Day And All Of The Night – sort of artsy.
failur2communicate: Not so “interesting” when you know the context. The women were the back-up dancers and performers for all the featured acts. They did all kinds of background augmentation. Don’t look for political incorrectness when there is none. “Overalls no less!” Well, why not? The setting is a factory, for the workingman song “5 O’clock World.” At the time, raised no eyebrows. But left-wing attitudes keep on taking the joy out of life, always looking for issues.
Interesting that in this TV set piece they have women doing all the “work” – in overalls no less! Great group, great upload! The Vogues are in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, check em out.
It is so soothing to be able to see this talented group of great looking, great sounding guys. (Hugh Geyer reminds me of my husband in his college days) TV Pop music presentations used to be well produced with sets and choreography – such high quality so lacking in so many acts today. THANK YOU VOGUES! Long may you carry on.
I would do anything to see The Vogues these days, anything…..love9ed) their sound, harmony especially with Turn Around Look At Me….and always thought they were also a bit under rated….they got to be 70ish now wow.

Now this folks, is why YouTube was invented!
And this was live, not some pre-packaged garbage that other groups did, or were afraid to do.

This has to be Austin Powers favorite song !

Strange looking at the way so many bands through the mid 60’s found it “mod” to have uniforms. … Still a great sound by a great band!

I remember watching this as a young boy, but I didn’t realize how significant this music was then. These guys were great.

Important to remember that when this song hit #4 in 1965 they were competing directly with the Beatles and Rolling Stones, etc. Quite a feat Gere.
